Lions Gate Sinfonia / North Shore Branch Collaborative Events 2018

posted in: Events

The students of the North Shore Branch of the BCRMTA have once again been invited to audition to perform with the Lions Gate Sinfonia Orchestra!   Auditions will be held on Saturday, February 17th and twelve fortunate students will be chosen to perform in a Masterclass and then at the Lions Gate Sinfonia Orchestra’s season final concert at the Centennial Theatre in North Vancouver.

This is a unique event in that students of ALL levels – preliminary to ARCT are invited to audition.  Clyde Mitchell, Music Director of LGS, writes orchestrations for these pieces to be performed at the concert. The students are essentially performing “mini concertos”!  It is a “once-in-a-lifetime” opportunity for many of these young students.  Some of our students who have performed with the orchestra at previous events have been so inspired by their experience, they are now studying music in universities across the country!

Clyde Mitchell will be conducting the masterclass with a focus on the collaboration between a soloist, conductor and orchestra.   A string quartet will be accompanying the students when they perform at the masterclass – another unique opportunity for our young performers!

The students who are not chosen to perform with the orchestra will be invited to perform at a formal recital on Friday, April 20th with Clyde Mitchell in attendance.  The concert with Lions Gate Sinfonia takes place on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 7:30 p.m. at Centennial Theatre in North Vancouver.

Our branch and students are extremely grateful for the opportunity Clyde Mitchell and the Lions Gate Sinfonia have offered our students – this being our 4th collaborative concert with the orchestra!
